BSc (Hons) Mental Health and Wellbeing

BSc Mental Health and Wellbeing aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to identify, understand and respond creatively to the various factors that influence mental health and wellbeing. This will enable students to pursue careers supporting individuals, their communities, organisations, and society to maintain and promote mental health and wellbeing.

Course Details

Course Overview

Students will examine biological, psychological, social, cultural and environmental factors that influence mental health and wellbeing throughout individual lives. Similarly, students will develop an understanding between clinical, non-clinical and individuals’ perspectives. Students will also explore the services across public, private and third sectors working to improve, maintain and promote mental health and wellbeing. Throughout the programme, students will develop and hone skills that are essential to effective mental health and wellbeing practice. With ethical practice at its core, this degree is structured to provide students with the knowledge and skills essential for working in diverse range of mental health and wellbeing services and making positive differences to the lives of individuals and their communities.

  • Examine the key theoretical concepts, policies and legislation underlying mental health and wellbeing, to critically evaluate their application in professional practice
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive and in depth understanding of the opportunities within the professional discipline and develop the key skills, responsibilities and professional standards required of a career in this field
  • Use current and relevant evidence to critically analyse contemporary political, economic, social, technological, legal, cultural and environmental factors and issues affecting mental health and wellbeing on an individual, community and societal level
  • Demonstrate an informed understanding of reflection by applying relevant and appropriate approaches to critically reflect upon personal and professional values, competence and ethics
  • Critically analyse appropriate and relevant evidence to demonstrate an informed understanding of the different and varying perspectives and approaches to mental health and wellbeing across diverse groups and cultures
  • Apply appropriate risk assessment frameworks, to demonstrate a comprehensive, evidence-based understanding of the maintenance and promotion of safe working practices in the field of mental health and wellbeing.

No Qualification Route 

 

You can apply for this course through the work experience route if you are age 21 and over, by passing an university internal interview and assessments, which means if you don’t have any GCSEs , A-Levels or any formal qualifications you can still apply for foundation year entry.


A-Level and other Qualifications  

 

72 to 104 UCAS Points for a 3 Year Degree

Any subjects are acceptable at Level 3 Diploma/Qualifications.

You might need to have five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.

Foundation Year Entry Requirements

48 points for a Foundation Degree or contact us we might be able to help you.

English Language Requirements

All students applying with International or EU qualifications must meet the following minimum English language requirements:

  • IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5.5 in all bands for study at undergraduate level.
