BA (Hons) Psychology offers a rigorous, research-informed programme that equips students with the knowledge and skills to explore and understand why people think, feel and behave as they do, and can be utilised across a wide range of career paths that positively impact in the lives of others.

Course Overview

This programme will enable students to develop a critical awareness of human behaviour and reasoning behind mental processes. There is a focus on the major components and methods of enquiry within contemporary and classical psychology such as research methods, social and developmental psychology, health, crime and business. By covering these broad areas, it will allow students to apply theory and evidence-based approaches to examine real-world events on a national and global level and engage in current and future debates within the discipline. Crucially, this course provides students with sufficient breadth and depth of knowledge and practical skills that they can pursue a wide range of psychology related careers and further postgraduate study.

  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of, and appropriately use a variety of quantitative and qualitative research methods to collect, analyse and interpret data conforming to ethical standards to progress towards becoming independent researchers
  • Drawing upon relevant evidence-based and theoretical perspectives, critically examine a range of psychological, biological, social, cognitive and developmental approaches in order to understand human behaviour and mental processes
  • Undertake in-depth exploration of a range of significant life events and the factors that impact on development through the life course such as, socio-cultural factors, the environment, socialisation, ageing, childhood, attachment, language development and biopsychosocial approaches
  • Investigate and critically examine perspectives such as role theory, illness narratives, typical and atypical development in order to explore the psychology of diagnosis and health experiences that challenge traditional health related approaches within the discipline
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive and informed understanding of contemporary issues in psychology to engage convincingly in debates about issues identified on a national and global scale
  • Critically evaluate psychological interventions and initiatives that can be used to support well-being, employee/employer relationships and implementation of relevant policies within business and organisational psychology.

No Qualification Route 

 

You can apply for this course through the work experience route if you are age 21 and over, by passing an university internal interview and assessments, which means if you don’t have any GCSEs , A-Levels or any formal qualifications you can still apply for foundation year entry.

A-Level and other Qualifications  

 

72 to 104 UCAS Points for a 3 Year Degree

Any subjects are acceptable at Level 3 Diploma/Qualifications.

You might need to have five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.

Foundation Year Entry Requirements

English Language Requirements

All students applying with International or EU qualifications must meet the following minimum English language requirements:

  • IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5.5 in all bands for study at undergraduate level.
